That means Americans spend an average of $120 a month or $1,400 a year on energy bills, with roughly one-third of the cost going toward heating and cooling. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The biggest energy hogs in most homes come from space cooling, which makes up around 15-17% of the average energy bill, and space heating, which makes up another 14-15%.
